My name is Eloy Zuniga Jr. I live in Houston and work for Schipul, building web applications.
I drive a
Mercury Grand Marquis 2001 and I refuse to trade it in. Mostly because it's the only car I've ever owned that is capable of getting me from A to B and then to C. I also refuse to trade it in because it's paid for. My windshield wipers have 2 settings, high and off, but it's mine all mine.
I first fell for the internet when I was introduced to AOL's amazing chat feature in middle school. My friend Jerry Rodriguez introduced me and I am forever grateful.
Later I learned the magic that is Photoshop, did some flash work and eventually ended up building small local band websites and fliers. I ended up making a couple of posters for my University (UHD) and went on to become Lead Layout Designer for our University newspaper. This was when I was able to pick up some InDesign skills and learn more about fonts and layouts.
While in College I worked for a Singles Dating company building websites and learned about -- what is now referred to as -- Search Engine Marketing. Back then my boss would just call it "get me on page 1 of Google." I did this for 2 years with amazing 1st page domination under terms such as "singles dating", "singles vacations", "singles trips", etc ... and that's saying something. You should see the vultures that dominate this market.
The company was a little shady to say the least, but it made money and I learned a lot about web design, getting people to convert (go from visitor to paying customer) and SEM (search engine marketing). They also flew me to Colombia to do photo shoots, where I managed to pick up a lot of brain candy on photography. Yes it was awesome, no I can't show you any photos. I also had the opportunity to unleash a lot of my photoshop skills here to touch up the girls in the photos. It's safe to say I learned a lot about photo correction at this time as well. I did this for a little over 2 years.
Now I'm here at Schipul writing this blog post on my personal branding. Schipul picked me up in my junior year of college as a part time employee. I graduated in May of 2007 with a Major in Computer Science and a Minor in Mathematics. I will be a 4-year-old Schipulite in February of 2010, here's hoping.
The biggest perks of working here at Schipul in my eyes is the environment. We're huge advocates of education and the halls are filled with geniuses. It's unpredictable and I love it. We play hard, we work hard.
I was hired for SEM here at Schipul and then I moved to
Tendenci development. Tendenci is our content management system that lets you maintain your website with ease. Now we're working hard on a new application designed around personal branding.
Remember kids, priority one is to be awesome.
